Description

Samarra is the name of one of the four Islamic Holy Cities of Iraq, the site of the powerful and influential Abbasid Caliphate, a major Islamic empire during the years 836 to 892. It is believed that the name Samarra is derived from an ancient Arabic phrase loosely translated to "A joy for all who see". Royal Selangor's Samarra collection features clean defined geometric lines, inspired by the muqarnas, a form of three-dimensional decoration applied to the underside of arches and domes, which is unique to Islamic architecture.
